Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a highly secure encryption method used to secure data between two points on a network.

Using the latest in encryption methods the information is secured for transfer between a users computer and the web server, generally used when transferring data such as a customers credit card information.

Usually a certificate is required to be purchased from a reputable company such as 'Thwaite' or 'verisign' and set up on a web server.

SSL is the most secure way of transferring data and when used in conjunction with the certificate holders seal gives a website visitor the piece of mind that the website will be secure and therefore increase sales for the owners.
