Cron Job

A Cron job is the automation of a task that is generally required to be done on a regular basis at a set time.

An example of a cron job is sending sales data from a shop till to the head office computer every day, this job would be set up to automatically upload the data daily at perhaps midnight and can be set once and will automatically do the job every time it is required until the program is told to no longer continue.

Websites use cron jobs to update information such as currency rates or news feeds, ready for the visitors to view when they log on.
