Speed up your iPhone iPad or iPod

After several weeks of my iPhone 3GS getting slower and slower i decided to investigate and find out how to speed up the phone and make it run more efficiently, i have also used these tips on my iPad with some great results.

One of the first things you can do with your device is remove any unwanted stored data, this not only helps free up valuable storage space but also helps increase the processing speed slightly, by doing this regularly you can also use a device with less capacity saving you money on the initial device, between the 16g and 64gb iPad you could save £160!!

Try the following to optimise space.

Remove old messages, do you really need all those old messages? if not delete them and free up the space.

Remove any movies or music you dont listen/watch often, store them on iTunes and put on your device when you need them.

Delete your browsing history in Safari, click on Bookmarks in Safari and click delete history.

Remove old Safari files, go into Settings, in Safari click on Clear Cookies and data.

The final and most efficient way to optimise your device is to stop any programs running in the background.

Multitasking was introduced by Apple in iOS4 to help quickly switch between apps, the problem is once an app is open it continues running in the background slowing down your device. To shut down running programs follow these simple instructions:

Double click your Home button, this is the button on the front of your device at the bottom in the middle.

A list of all apps running will be shown along the bottom of the screen.

To delete a running app (it will delete the process and not remove the app) just hold down one of the apps by keeping your finger on it until a white minus sign in a red circle appears in the top right of the app icon, clicking this minus sign will remove the app from the multitasking menu.

Continue removing as many apps from the multitasking menu as you no longer need running.

By completing these steps and often repeating them, you will find your device will continue to run faster and more efficiently.
